Ooookey dokey, here we go.

He laughed with her, relief taking the rest of his coordination. He sat on the floor with a thump, pulling Kitty down with him. He wiggled slim fingers in front of her smiling face.
"And look at this; this is far too many fingers."
"You?ve got lovely nails though," she quipped with a giggle.
His smile faded as he recalled the situation. He studied the small, female hands.
"What I am going to do?"
She took his hands into her own, gazing into his eyes with nothing but love. "We?ll figure something out, together." She smiled.
He returned her smile with gratitude. She held onto his hands, her eyes still locked with his. Her expression looked so strange. He still wondered about her question. Did she just tell me that to make me feel better, he thought. I don?t know why this matters to me so much, considering the situation. If she loves Logan more, she still cares for me also. We?re all family.
Kitty studied his face. Now, looking at him, she saw not Mystique but her friend. Her brother. More. He?s thinking about it too, she thought. I can?t tell him the truth. I made that choice long ago. He looks so uncertain though, so hurt. I can?t reassure him about this?God, I want to. His expression broke her heart.
Kurt pulled his hands away. "We?ll find Logan. Katzchen. Don?t worry."
"Kurt, I?.Yes. Yes, we will," she settled herself on the floor in front of him, willing her heart to stop pounding. "Now tell me what you know."
Kurt pushed his hurt away and told her of his ambush in the church and Mystique?s blackmail plot. He told her of his betrayal; of looking up the Xavier Protocols. She looked shocked at his confession. Ah, one more reason for me to be second, he thought. I cannot tell her of Logan and our secret. It is too new. I?m not sure how I feel about it myself. He trailed off, brow furrowed in thought. Kitty cleared her throat, waking him from his reverie.
"So, how did she catch you?"
"I don?t know."
"You don?t know?"
His expression was sheepish. "I was drunk."
"Oh, good God Kurt!" Her anger faded quickly. "So she didn?t have Logan and you in the same place?"
"No." He told her the rest of the story, what he remembered through the pain.
"She?s setting you up. She wanted to take your place; to get inside. Amazing."
Kurt thought for a moment. "If she hears I?m alive she won?t come back?at least not in my form." He smiled suddenly. "Wait?.I know?That may be our best shot at finding Logan?"
"What?"
"Let her think I?m dead, Kitty. If she thinks I?m gone she will return and we can trap her. Go get Hank. We?ll tell him first. He can get started on changing me back and attend to my ?death.? We?ll tell the rest of the X-Men when they check in."
"No."
"Was? This is the best way Katzchen."
"I agree. But we can?t tell the X-Men. What if one of them has been replaced too? If this serum she used on you works on anyone we could be full of imposters."
"Ah?Kitty. What would I do without you?"
She reached out a hand, laying it on his cheek. Her eyes were soft. "I was wondering what I?d do without you, my Fuzzy Elf." Her thumb stroked his cheek, she smiled. "Though you?re not so fuzzy right now."
He covered her hand with his own, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Danke, Katzchen."
Her face hardened. "How do we know we can trust Hank?"
The corner of Kurt?s mouth quirked up as he thought. Kitty smothered a smile, that familiar expression looked so funny on Mystique?s face.
"If he was a doppleganger, he would have let me die. He would have arranged it."
"See, what would *I* do? " She rose from the floor, pulling him up with her with an unladylike grunt of effort. "You look smaller but you?re still awfully heavy."
She helped him back to the bed, swerving under his unsteady weight. He lay back down with a sigh, blowing long, fiery red hair out of his eyes.
"I hate this."
"I know. Hank will get you back to normal in no time. I?ll go get him."
With a smile and a jaunty wave she phased, air walking up to the ceiling and through. Kat, she told herself. You've got some serious thinking to do...

Well...there it is. If anyone wants to pick up on the K + K thing the opening is there...Of course I'd love it. But since I know some people don't want them together, I'm not brave enough to go there.

It's funny..i'm imagining all of us in our respective corners of the world writing/typing furiously trying to come up with the next installment! (Aah the magic of the internet!)
Fantastic job everyone!
